ABOUT
SONS OF KINGS LODGE #123
A Brief History
Sons of Kings Lodge #123 is comprised of members of four lodges which include Dr. Martin Luther King Lodge No. 1, Sons of Timothy Lodge No.1, , Kings County Lodge No. 1 and Westgate Lodge. These lodges were affiliated with the New York State Grand Council A.A.S.R.M. under the Auspices of The Supreme Council of America A.A.S.R.M., Inc. jurisdiction. Which is located at 317 Clermont Avenue Brooklyn, New York.
On June 21, 2002, these lodges met to determine a course of action due to their dissatisfaction with the present jurisdiction. With the help of Right Worshipful Robert Hansley (93), we were able to arrange a meeting with Daniel W. Simmons, Past Grand Master of The Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of the State of New York and his cabinet, to discuss how and when we can be brought to true Masonic light by becoming Prince Hall Masons. On this day, we determined that we should combine all of our lodges to form one lodge and therefore, Sons of Kings was born.
On October 26, 2002, the three degrees were conferred upon its members in an Occasional Lodge conducted by the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of the State of New York. On this day, we began to realize our goal of becoming Prince Hall Masons. We also knew that our challenge had only just begun.
Our first Stated Communication was held on November 8, 2002 at the Brooklyn Prince Hall Temple located at 70 Pennsylvania Avenue, Brooklyn, New York. At this meeting, we were visited by P.G.M. Simmons and his cabinet. At this momentous occasion, he placed our lodge under Dispensation. We were introduced to Right Worshipful Leo D. Johnson (11) who would act as our Overseer by instructing us and observing our progress in becoming a chartered Prince Hall Lodge.
Right Worshipful Johnson was an integral part of raising the functionality of the lodge to Prince Hall standards. In addition to instructing us how to open and close the lodge and to conduct business properly, he stressed the importance of conferring the three degrees using the ritual as approved by the M.W.P.H.G.L. or as corrected/amended by the Committee on Work and Lectures after approval by the M.W.P.H.G.L.
On Friday, September 10, 2004, our dream of becoming a chartered lodge was finally realized. It was truly a joyous occasion to be formally installed by Calvin Martin, Past Grand Master of the M.W.P.H.G.L of New York and his cabinet.
The Charter officers elected on September 10th 2004 are are as follows:
Derek Pritchett, Worshipful Master
Barry Joseph White, Senior Warden
Dwight Reid, Junior Warden
Harris Grant, Treasurer
Damon Wright, Secretary
The members of Sons of Kings Lodge #123 have forged new friendships and gained a broader knowledge of masonry in general. We are very thankful to the G.A.O.T.U. for guiding us to become a part of the Prince Hall Family and look forward to a long and prosperous history.
